Learning Slovenian - What is year PLUS?
The University of Ljubljana offers two courses in Slovene as a foreign language, designed to meet the specific communicative needs of international students studying at the university. These courses are part of the Year Plus module and award 3 ECTS credit points each.
1. Slovene as a foreign language level 1 is intended for beginners and focuses on teaching the language systematically in an organized setting. The course is taught in groups of up to 20 students, and covers listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The contents of the course are adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants and reflect their needs in everyday life communication as well as for study purposes. The course includes 60 hours of group work.
2. Slovene as a foreign language level 2 is designed for students who have already mastered the level of Slovenian language skills provided by level 1. The course is also taught in groups of up to 20 students and focuses on communication in everyday life as well as in the academic environment of the University of Ljubljana. The contents of the course are adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants. The course includes 60 hours of group work.
In addition, students who accumulate at least 30 ECTS credit points during their first year of study at the University of Ljubljana, including at least 6 ECTS credit points from the Slovenian language courses (levels 1 and 2), are entitled to a one-year extension of their student status during their studies.
